Before I get into the meat of today’s post, I want to share with you an awesome author endeavor. Award winning YA author Shelli Johannes and CEO of BiblioCrunch Miral Sattar has spear-headed a campaign to gain donations (to be given to the United Way of Western CT) as a show of support for the victims in Sandy Hook. I’m so honored to be a part of this. Over 50 folks in the publishing industry have donated various items (books, crits, etc) for auction. 

The deets: It’s an online auction to benefit the victims of the Sandy Hook Connecticut shootings through Newtown Youth and Family Services. The auction is currently scheduled to start Monday, Dec 17th (9am EST) and the first round will end Friday Dec 21st (11:00 PM EST)

Flake-out Friday–Marketing Your Words by Shelli Johannes

Last week, best-selling YA author and marketing guru, Shelli Johannes, published a non-fiction book, A Writer’s Guide to Marketing Your Words. It compiles all the FAB tips, information, and advice to market yourself and your books from Shelli’s blog.

I’m recommending this book to all writers, agented or unagented, pre-published and published, because there’s information in here for EVERYONE at EVERY STAGE IN THE GAME.

Within minutes of starting to read it, I’d already learned a bunch of new things and developed lots of ideas about marketing. THANK YOU, SHELLI!!!!!

Writer Wednesday–The Novella and Novelette

Gotta say, with the new indie wave and access to eformats, it’s been a lot of fun to see authors come out with novellas and novellettes. Honestly, I never really paid attention to the term “Novelette” until Shelli Johannes pubbed her novelette (the first in THE BREATHLESS series, YAY!), SUFFOCATE.

Another great novelette series is THE CREEPY HOLLOW series by Rachel Morgan.

The stories are shorter, so they tend to be quick reads, there’s still enough room for character development (which is less cramped than in short stories), and they can stand alone, or be part of a series.

I can’t wait for more authors to jump on this bandwagon…in fact, I may try it myself! *brainstorms idea*
