Molly’s a hot mess and her life is falling apart.

Just when she thinks she’s about to get her happily ever after, her sister steps in to have an affair with her fiancé on her wedding day. Determined to bring Molly out of her funk, her friends take her out for a night on the town, only for her to go home with a professional boxer who pops in and out of her life when she least expects it. Her mother tries to push her back into the arms of her cheating ex, but forgiving Jason is the hardest thing Molly will ever have to do. And even if she can forgive him, does her happily ever after include her ex-fiancé, or the charming boxer with a shady past?

Excerpt:  To set up the scene, this happens shortly after Molly intervenes in a fight between Sawyer and one of his friends, and she inadvertently gets caught in the crossfire.

I’m to meet the client at the Red Line Coffee House the following day. It’s this little cafe on the main floor of the Dover Hotel— the same hotel I did the walk of shame at after sleeping with Sawyer. Sigh. Being here makes me uncomfortable and I massage the back of my neck as I feel a flush of heat in my face.

I check my watch and it’s twelve forty five. I’m fifteen minutes early and I’m dressed to impress, wearing my best outfit: a black pencil skirt and white silk blouse with a fitted red blazer and matching pumps that Jason bought me for Christmas last year. Looking down at them as I sit at the table near the counter, I can’t help but feel nostalgic.

Why can’t I stop missing him?

“This seat taken?” says a familiar, deep voice.

I begin to smile as I look up, but my smile quickly fades. Then my temper fires. Sawyer slides into the seat opposite me. He smile is timid, like he’s not sure if I’m happy to see him or not. Newsflash: I’m not. He wears brand name track pants and a henley shirt. His hair is freshly showered and damp, falling over his eyes so he flicks his head to push it back.

“Yes, it is. I’m waiting for someone.”

“Oh, really. A date?”

“That’s none of your business.” I fold my arms across my chest and sit up straight. I need to be on my toes with this one. I barely know him and yet everything about him disturbs me. “Haven’t you done enough damage?” I say as I lean in. He leans in to meet me.

He points to my face and drops his hand onto the table. “Your face doesn’t look so bad.”

I make a face. “Thanks. Just the kind of compliment every girl wishes for.”

He clears his throat and changes the subject. “Does it hurt?”

“What do you care? The damage is done. Now if you don’t mind, I’d really rather not see you ever again.”

“Dane said you were insulted that I sent him.”

“I’m not a gold digger. And you if you wanted to make things right, you could have come to the hospital and apologized instead of sending your lawyer. I mean, it’s not like we’re complete strangers, is it?” I feel the heat pooling in my cheeks. I really don’t want to think about that night we spent together. I can barely remember it anyway, but the look on his face, the frown and the head tilt, I wonder if he remembers me at all—other than our incident at the party.

“Did we hook up?” He points to his chest and mine.

I want to slap him across the face. Okay, we were both drunk, but could he make me feel any smaller? The heat in my cheeks burns hotter, this time from anger. At least I remembered sleeping with him—sort of. The least he could do was afford me the same courtesy.

“I wasn’t at my best when I saw you at the party,” he adds.

“No. We didn’t.” I look away hoping he doesn’t see through my lie.

He shifts in his seat and taps his thumbs on the table. His eyes go blank, as if he’s somewhere else.

“I am sorry about the…” He points to my head.

I take a deep breath and study his face. Somewhere on the edges of his cheeky smile, I see a flash of sincerity. As much I’m decided on accepting his apology, now is not the time for making amends. I have more pressing things to deal with. My watch reads one-oh-five.

“What were you even fighting about? Let me guess, a girl? Maybe the girl you slept with at the party? Real classy, by the way.”

He scratches at the scruff on his cheek and takes a deep breath. “How did you know about the girl?”

“I was in the bathroom when I heard your marathon sex session.”

I expect him to be embarrassed, to blush or something, but he doesn’t. He just looks a little surprised.

He massages the back of his neck as he chuckles. “This really isn’t going the way I planned.”

“Listen. We’re cool. I accept your apology, but you need to go, all right? I’m waiting for a client.”

“A client, huh? What kind of work is it that you do?”

I glance around the room. I have no idea who I’m looking for. Dina said the client would find me. “Real estate.”

“Really. Well now that’s a coincidence, because I’m in the market for a new house.”

Title: By Force (Forever Fae I)

Genre: NA Fantasy

ISBN: 978-1-940223-78-0

We stared at each other for what seemed like an eternity, though it was probably mere seconds. His ice-cold stare made me forget to breathe. I swallowed hard as his face inched closer to mine, and his stale breath on my skin made the hairs on my head prick up. Strands of his hair fell from his braids and lightly tickled my neck and face. I closed my eyes, preparing myself for what he would do next.

Kidnapping Isame would set them free…

Isame wanted freedom: the freedom to travel, the freedom to explore, but most of all, the freedom to choose the life she wanted over the life—and the husband—her parents had chosen for her. But when Isame leaves home to accept another man’s proposal, she happens across five fierce, handsome warriors. She wonders why they’ve travelled so far from home, but she never imagines their purpose might have something to do with her. Not even after they kidnap her.

Remmie is a man of honor and fierce loyalty. So when his king commands him to find a specific young woman on the island of Copaxa, he’s prepared to obey. But he’s not prepared for the woman to change everything. Isame is special. He can see it from the start. But how can one puny woman make him question everything he’s always known, including the rightness of doing what he’s promised?

Flake-out Friday–NEW PRIDE Excerpt, Part Two

Today is the last day to enter a Rafflecopter giveaway of BLOOD, SHE READ by Sara Hubbard and NEW PRIDE, by *me*. Click HERE to enter. Good luck and THANKS!!

Last week, Sara Hubbard hosted me and we got a first glimpse at a NEW PRIDE excerpt. Today, I’d like to share another excerpt.

Hope you like it!

I heard the falls long before we arrived at its base.

The air was moist and the scent of succulent plant life mixed with damp earth to tickle my nose. Metallic undertones settled on my tongue. The water was fresh and clean. Too bad Molly and I weren’t alone. It would be awesome to come back during the day and go skinny-dipping, then lay on the mossy rocks to dry in the sun. Kind of like when she had sunbathed when I first saw her.

Apparently, the guys had the same idea as me, but didn’t care that they weren’t alone. They kicked off their shoes and whipped off their shirts and jeans. The only other girl with us, Nina, joined them without reservation.

One after the other, they ran into the natural pool, screeching and yipping at the shock of cold water against their skin protected only by underwear.

Molly peeled herself away from me. “You coming?” She gave me a coy smile and tugged the straps of her dress down her arms.

My heart quickened. I licked my lips. “Er…”

“You’re not afraid of the water, are you?” She arched her right brow, already unfastening the buttons on the front of her sundress. Her white bra all but glowed in the moonlight.

I stepped closer to her, lightly covering her hands with mine. She stared up at me, brown eyes wide with…anticipation. A slow smile worked at my mouth. I unbuttoned the remaining buttons, stopping at her waist. Molly shifted her shoulders and her dress fell to the ground. My gaze traced down her belly, to her legs, and finally to her feet.

And back up again.

Molly bit her bottom lip. Her cheeks darkened and she folded her arms across her chest.

I took her hands in mine and kissed her knuckles. “You’re beautiful.”

She ducked her head and looked up at me through her bangs.

My belly tingled, igniting a fire deep inside. Unable to stop myself, I ran my fingers through her curly hair, letting them come to rest on the nape of her neck.

She stood on her tiptoes so our mouths were millimeters apart. “And you’re handsome,” she whispered.

I held my breath. I wanted to kiss her so bad, but I didn’t want to ruin the moment if she didn’t feel the same way.

(Edited for language)

When I left detention, the hallways were empty and eerily quiet. I half expected tumbleweeds to roll down the black and white checked linoleum. The overhead lights were off, leaving the hall in shadows that were broken only by patches of light streaming in though the open classroom doors. Barely enough light allowed me to make out the numbers on my combination lock, but I managed to get it open on the first try. First time for everything. I opened the door and objects shot out from the cramped space inside as if they were made of tightly coiled springs. Books, pencils, and pens fell onto the floor with a clatter.

“Fantastic.” I crouched down to collect them, gathering them into my chest. I needed to get out of here quick. If anyone came asking questions and demanding answers, I wouldn’t have anything to say for myself. One by one, my locker contents slowly fell again. Just my luck. One of my tampons rolled across the floor until it finally collided with a pair of black, steel-toed boots.

Shoot me now.

My eyes lifted slightly to meet with solid, muscular legs covered in faded blue jeans. Whoever wore them bent at the knees and crouched down beside me. I kept my gaze cast downward, embarrassed. He picked up the tampon, and lightly clutching it between his index and middle finger, he held it out to me, his hand palm-side up.

My cheeks boiled and the heat spread to my ear lobes and neck. I could only imagine the rash that accompanied it. Combined with my freckles, I probably looked like a freak show. I lifted my gaze to meet the square, thick jaw of Tommy Harris.

F###. My. Life.

I bit my lower lip to keep from screaming. Why, out of all the people in school, did he have to find me with a rogue tampon? I wanted to be sick. His eyes almost seemed to glow in the shadowed hall, and his glare sliced through my skin.

I let out the breath I’d been holding. We weren’t alone.

Double f### my life.

Finnigan stood to Tommy’s left and Markus to his right. I glanced at the word Tampax bolded in white across the shocking pink wrapper. I snatched the tampon and tucked it into the big, single front pocket of my green hoodie. Most of the other items I held fell to the floor with a trickle of clicks and clanks. As I rose to stand tall, Tommy mirrored my movements. I had to crane my neck to look up into his steely eyes. In front of me, he seemed giant-like.

I sucked in air and let it out slowly. “Thanks.”

He half-smiled at me, but not in a way that made me feel comfortable. He took a step forward, forcing me to take one back. The cool surface of the steel locker behind me pierced through my clothing and hair. It travelled through me, sending shivers up and down my spine. I straightened my shoulders, stretched my neck, anything I could do to gain an extra inch. He meant to intimidate me, and I wouldn’t give him the satisfaction of knowing he succeeded.

Over and over, I told myself that he didn’t scare me, but I knew I was full of shit. He could have snapped me in two without breaking a sweat. And he could have done it long before I could rhyme off a spell. Not that I’d cast now after what I’d just done to Foley. He couldn’t open his mouth!

No. Magic wasn’t the answer.

Tommy’s left arm jutted out and with a slam, it landed to the left of my head. I flinched and then silently cursed myself. Then he did the same movement with his right hand. My gaze flashed to Finnigan, to the beautiful boy I’d once thought was awesome. He refused to look at me. Ashamed? Embarrassed? Whatever. He’d held the door for me the other day and his lips had curled into this cute half-smile. I’d almost smiled back, thinking how great it was for him to treat me like I might matter. Now he let his brother threaten me, while he and his cousin stood watching. Three against one. Cowards. I couldn’t believe I’d ever thought he might be something special.

I wanted them all to go away, and as my anger bucked and blossomed, I thought about the awful things I wanted to do to each of them, but especially

to Tommy. In fact, images flashed through my mind with such clarity, I might have been watching them on a movie screen: Tommy being thrown back and forth across the hall, denting the lockers, and then lurching up to the ceiling until his head disappeared, before his body and legs dangled frantically like a headless chicken. I shook the images off before I lost control.

“Don’t you do it, Petra,” I muttered to myself. “Don’t you dare. Magic causes more problems than it solves, and they’ll only see how different you are.”

I didn’t need magic to protect myself. I had a knee and he had nuts for a target. And so did his cronies. Why was I looking at his penis? I snapped my gaze back up to his harsh face.

“You and I need to talk.” His voice was calm, but his eyes were ice.

An image wandered into my mind, of Tommy standing in the middle of a parking lot with a wrecking ball about to be released on his nuts. I cursed myself again and tried to shove it down deep. What was I thinking? Then, I watched the wrecking ball whip through the air, connect with his groin, and lift him, while his mouth formed a perfect, agonized O shape.

Stop it, stop it, stop it.

“Heard you had a visitor Saturday afternoon,” he said.

“So?” I managed, my voice cracking.

“So, I had one too. Saturday night. Cops came ‘round after midnight, asking me and my brother all kinds of questions about Josie Brennan. Kind of a coincidence, don’t ya think, since I heard they were at your house before they came to mine.” Tommy’s smile faded, and I swear his eyes flashed crimson, but I assumed the semidarkness played tricks on me. “For months we had no cops at our door, then you talk to them and they’re at my house.”

Oh my God. My dad. Did he know, too? No way. He would’ve shown up at my house by now to stare down at me with his cold, black eyes, before punishing me. Mom had been wrong. Dad didn’t care enough to keep an eye on us. This gave me comfort. But more than that, thinking about my dad gave me strength. Compared to my dad, Tommy was a stuffed bunny rabbit. Tommy didn’t scare me or intimidate me. Not anymore.

Book Blurb:

Keeping secrets from a psychic can be murder.

Petra Maras lives a charmed life, but only in the magical sense. Her absentee father is a criminal, her mother is emotionally dead, and everyone at her new school knows she comes from a family of witches. All she wants is to be normal, but that’s impossible, given her family. And given that she’s psychic. When the police request help with a murder investigation, Petra reluctantly agrees. Which isn’t such a good idea since the prime suspect wants to date her, and she really wants to say yes. Her gut says he’s innocent, but since she can’t get a read on him, she can’t know for sure. And when she discovers he’s been keeping secrets, she wonders if maybe she’s been following her heart instead of her head…
