November is a time of reflection and giving thanks to our blessings and fortunes. The Indelibles have decided to highlight that tradition by hosting a blogfest to celebrate thanks.

Right now, I’m thankful for being a published author, LOL! Time and again, I hear that while writing is a solitary endeavor, publishing is NOT. It takes a metropolitan-sized group of people to 1) identify your work as something worthy of being pubbed, 2) actually offering to publish it, 3) scrub and polish it into a glorific version of itself, 4) develop cover art, blurbs, etc, 5) help spread the word via the social networks, 6) post reviews, and 7) purchase it!

Each step has its own hurdles and learning curves and without the help of EVERY SINGLE PERSON I’ve met on the blogosphere, writing forums, social networking sites, etc, I wouldn’t have been able to accomplish ANYTHING.

For that, I am THANKFUL.

To spread the Thanksgiving cheer, I will GIVE AWAY to TWO lucky commenters, an EBOOK of YOUR CHOICE! All you have to do is comment here about what makes you thankful.

YAY!

Be sure to come back on WEDNESDAY wherein I take part in the cover reveal for Jennifer L. Armentrout’s OPAL and on FRIDAY, wherein I help with a cover reveal for another fellow author. Then, next TUESDAY, November 27, I host Colin F. Barnes. He’ll be sharing info about his novel, The Techxorcist. Colin also developed Anachron Press, where several short story anthologies–ranging from horror to cyberpunk–call their home. A new Pulp Line is actively taking submissions–check it out!

Hello, dear friends!

Who here celebrates Halloween? Or, more importantly, who here is staying up till midnight to start working on your NaNo novel?

Not this girl, LOL!

Best of luck to all trick or treaters and NaNoers!

I hope all y’all’s hangovers aren’t too horrendous to keep you from stopping by on Friday!

A reminder and a request: In case you missed last Wednesday’s post, I’m gathering peeps for a Release Day Blitz for my novelette NEW PRIDE. Please refer there to see how to help, if you’re so inclined. THANK YOU!!!

So, 2012 is here. If the Mayans are right, we only have a few months left to do whatever we plan to while on this planet.

The natural follow up to this is a discussion on goals. (Never mind that I’m not really buying the whole Doomsday in December thing.)

Last year, I wrote a list of writerly goals. I met about half of them. But I’m not disappointed, considering I had a huge change in my work responsibilities and I had a huge battle with my mojo over the past couple of months.

This year, I’m not going to write down goals. Why?

I don’t wanna.

Some may think that’s lame, but I don’t. I know what my overall goal is:

GET PUBLISHED.

BUT, I can’t put a timeline to that. All I can do is try my best every day. If that means slamming out 5000 words or doing absolutely nothing, that’s gonna have to be good enough.

Tell me folks, what’s your approach to goals?

Be sure to send me a writerly related psychiatric question so I can address it here on Mental Health Mondays. Check out Lydia’s Medical Monday (she’s talking about telekinesis today. Cool!!!) and Sarah Fine’s The Strangest Situation.

Cheers!

Hey gang!

I titled this post “Respite” because it’s important to remember to take breaks now and again. The holidays are coming up and there’s much “real life” stuff to do, so I’ll be taking the rest of the week off from blogging.

Be sure to send me your mental health questions (writing related only, please!) and I’ll address them as they come in.

Those of you working on your Nano novel–WOOT WOOT! We’re coming into the home stretch. Don’t forget to stay hydrated (I prefer Dunkin Donuts iced coffee) and fed (M&Ms are awesome!) and rested (sleep is my favorite hobby after writing and reading, yo!).

I hope everyone enjoys their Thanksgiving. This year, the fam is coming to my house (this’ll be the First Annual Thanksgiving At the Fixer Upper Mansion).

If you’re masochistic, then you’re probably heading out on Black Friday. I’m not. Nothing gets me up in the morning…NOTHING. So while I’m sleeping in, I hope y’all get some uber fabulous sales.

Okay. That’s about it. See ya’s all next week! ;)

While kids are trick or treating, writers are cracking knuckles and stretching fingers in preparation for the kick off of NaNoWriMo at midnight.

Best of luck writers!

Feel free to check in here with your progress throughout the month. I wanna see how all y’all are doing along the way.

Also, check out Elizabeth Mueller’s Spookfesta for the release of her novel, DARKSPELL!!!!
